Day 1 of Supercon Retro.
I preordered my 3-day pass and got in soon after the doors opened. First thing my brother and I always do at a con is go through the dealers room. Here I met with PL McCall (fellow Indie writer and friend) and heard about his upcoming comic book. I also met with E. Robert Dunn, a sci-fi Indi writer who had trouble with “professional” publishing. It was great to see his hefty book (1 of 12) up for sale. As someone with a long series of rather large books, it was encouraging to see his success. He had a series glossary as well; wondering if I should do something similar at a later time.
Anyways. I bought a Jojo’s wallet (no leather of course) and met a fantastic Jotaro cosplayer.
My brother and I went to some creative writing panels featuring PL McCall, E. Robert Dunn and VB Kennedy (all writers whose books I now own 😊). Of course my brother and I offered our business cards and vegan abolitionist pamphlets to dealers and panelists at the convention.
My brother and I went through and bought quite a few Indi comics (after all we plan on doing our own comic sometime- likely after book 4 is finished). Some were not very good but one in particular captured our interest. It’s called Popova and is about a sexist assassin group made up of abused women who have made it their life’s mission to punish men who abuse females. I call them sexist because they see all men as the “enemy”, though they only go after perpetrators of violence and they turn a blind eye to women who abuse others. The main character feels that cruelty has no gender and sets off to do things her own way. To check it out go to popovaworld.com. Im excitedly waiting for the next installment.
